Take it easy

I think we rush too much. Not all of us, but most of us.

The word that comes to mind is “thorough.” How thorough are we with things these days?

Most of the time we’re rushing around doing a mediocre job so we can get through a task to take on another one (or at least get the bad one over with). My new stance is I’m going to relax and take it easy. Many times I’ve been called a chicken with its head cut off. Not anymore!

I’m notorious for doing a quick clean of the kitchen. Wipe the counters and I’m good to go for having company over. Naturally I do the “oh, don’t mind the filth” which is just another way of saying “I didn’t feel like cleaning before you came over.” Now, I’ll just say, “Look, I hate cleaning so I didn’t.”

I think back to my time as a student. In my younger days I did lots of research for assignments and even rewrote when I didn’t think my printing was neat enough (back before everything was typed).

Come high school and college it was a rush to get through the paper so it was done and I didn’t have to worry about it.

A long weekend is always eye opening for me. It is ideal to have a perfectly lazy time and do absolutely nothing around the house. We always say we need more time, but if we actually had it, what would with do with it? More nothing!

So here I lay on the couch in no rush to file this column, all the while thinking about how nothing ever gets done around the house. I still can’t figure out where I go wrong with scheduling.
