Friends ’til the end… of the campaign, at least

We all know celebrities will say the darnedest things to get publicity. Whether that is a controversial remark or something just so stupid it gets people talking, the rich and famous can be shameless with their words.

But what about those presidential candidates?

By now you’ve heard how Donald Trump talks about Mexicans and immigrants. He’s lost a lot of fans — and potentially votes — with his hate-filled tongue.

Taking the kinder, gentler, more grandmotherly approach is Hillary Clinton. She seems to be strategically aligning herself with Kim Kardashian who just happens to have tens of millions of social media followers — many of whom might be able to vote… and read.

So it shocked some reporters when the two had their first encounter and Kardashian was able to get up close for a selfie with Clinton but my thought was, “The last thing Clinton should do is diss a Kardashian during an election campaign.” Why? Kardashian fans tend to have a mob mentality.

Clinton was recently asked about her thoughts on Kardashian and goo-ingly said, “I really enjoyed meeting her. I really found her to be warm and very personable. I enjoy seeing her with her daughter. I think all of us in our ways can be inspirational or aspirational for people. I certainly think many people see her as someone who gets up every day and tries to figure out how to make that day successful.”

Did anybody else throw up in their mouth a little after reading that?

Basically Clinton just described a working mom. That mom could be a business owner, a teacher, a single parent. That comment describes millions of females. What makes it funny is that millions of females wouldn’t want to be considered to be like Kardashian so could praising a famous-for-nothing-but-a-sex-tape female, work against Clinton? Maybe to voters who analyze word for word what candidates say. In the pop culture world we live in, relating an entire gender to a Kardashian probably wins you brownie points. I guess we shall see.
