The dumbest question to ask

Do you know who I am? Probably not a good question to scream at a police officer when you’re being pulled over for DUI. Unfortunately for Reese Witherspoon, she made the embarrassing mistake when her husband Jim Toth caught a patrol officer’s attention with his reckless driving.

It is a question lots of celebs ask and oftentimes it can get the Justin Biebers or Lindsay Lohans of the world out of trouble for a little while. But when the arresting officer really has no idea who you are, it’s probably a good thing you are too drunk to suffer the embarrassment of being an unrecognizable no-name.

Let me just catch you up to speed if you haven’t heard the story. Witherspoon and Toth were in a car that was weaving in and out of traffic so police pulled them over in Atlanta. While Toth was being arrested for DUI, Witherspoon lashed out, screaming at the officer, “Do you know my name?”

The officer replied, “No, I don’t need to know your name.”

Witherspoon fired back, “You’re about to find out who I am. You are going to be on national news.” And that he was – but she was the one looking like an idiot.

In all good bad-celebrity stories, the standard PR practice is to have the embarrassing arrest, wait a day or two before going public with an apology and then let things cool until the court case revs up interest again.

Unfortunately for her, Witherspoon made a strange comment in an interview before the arrest but it wasn’t published until a few days after the drunken rant.

In an interview with Red magazine, Witherspoon said her baby stole her brain. Seriously, I can’t make this up.

The exact quote is: “Ever since I had the baby, I can’t remember anything. Serious, this child stole my brain. I’m losing friendships over forgetting to get back to people. But you can’t keep up with everything. I’ve got a 13-year-old, a nine-year-old and a baby.”

No word if she remembers how to mix drinks. But maybe it’s safe to assume.
